Indira is a Director at Global Health Strategies and provides support on TB and Grand Challenges projects. She has obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Sri Ramachandra Medical College in Chennai, India. Following this she worked in one of New Delhi’s largest public sector hospitals as a junior resident physician and research assistant. She then undertook rotations in the Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases and Haematology and Oncology departments of two highly regarded medical institutions in the United States, while successfully completing the three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing exams and obtaining her ECFMG certification. She returned to India and continued working in the corporate healthcare sector with an externship in Mumbai in TB and Pulmonology and then in New Delhi as a junior resident physician in Medical Oncology.

 

Her interest in Health Systems Strengthening and Health Policy led her towards Public Health. She has recently obtained her Master of Public Health degree from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York, where she interned at the UNICEF headquarters in the Health Section’s Knowledge Management and Implementation Research unit and worked as a policy consultant with the National Quality Center, an organization within the New York State Department of Health, on a review of the health economic benefits of increased viral load suppression amongst individuals infected with HIV.
