John Spangler joined Global Health Strategies after serving as a Global Health Corps fellow in Kampala, Uganda. During his year in Uganda, he developed and managed communications products for an international non-profit focused on maternal and reproductive health. Prior to this, he worked for four years in the Office of Global Affairs within the Office of the Secretary at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services where he edited the secretary's foreign correspondence, served as a global health liaison to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, and the Food and Drug Administration, supported international human rights and LGBT policy issues, and served on the U.S. Delegation to the 68th World Health Assembly.

John completed his bachelor’s degree at George Washington University where he studied international affairs with concentrations in global health and international development. He was a U.S. Department of State Gilman Scholar in Tamil Nadu, India and returned to India to continue his Tamil language studies after graduation. In addition to his studies, he was an intern with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Program for four years.
