David Gold is an attorney and principal of
Global Health Strategies. Most recently, Mr.
Gold was Vice President for Policy and Public
Support at the International AIDS Vaccine
Initiative (IAVI), where he oversaw the creation
of IAVI's global policy and advocacy programs,
as well as its regional programs in North
America, Europe, Japan and Latin America.
Working closely with IAVI's CEO, Mr. Gold
helped IAVI attract political support and
financial commitments from eight OECD governments,
multilateral agencies, and the Bill &
Melinda Gates Foundation totaling more than
US$300 million. He also created partnerships
and alliances with key institutions, including
the World Health Organization, the European
Union, the US National Institutes of Health
and the Brazilian Government. Mr. Gold began
working for IAVI in 1996, when he created
the IAVI Report, a publication devoted to
AIDS vaccine research that now reaches more
than 8000 subscribers in 130 countries.
Mr. Gold is also co-founder of the AIDS Vaccine
Advocacy Coalition, a consumer-based organisation
that advocates for AIDS vaccine development
and delivery. From 1991–1995, he headed the
Medical Information Program at Gay Men's Health
Crisis, the world's first and largest AIDS
organization, and edited its newsletter on
HIV therapies, Treatment Issues. He began
working in AIDS as a member of ACT UP's Treatment
& Data Committee.
Mr. Gold has written and contributed to a
wide range of reports on AIDS research issues.
He has also served on research advisory panels
for a number of different organizations including
the World Health Organization, the United
Nations, the US National Institutes of Health
and a number of pharmaceutical companies.
Prior to working on global health issues,
Mr. Gold headed an investment company that
focused on real estate and publishing. He
currently lives in New York City and has a
3-year old son.
